ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Charmaine Husum RCAT, DKATI, RTC, CT is a Professional Artist, Registered Art Therapist, Registered Therapeutic Counsellor and Yoga teacher at Centre of the HeArt, Art Therapy & Somatic Counselling.
Beginning her professional art career nearly 30 years ago, painting murals for photography studios around the world, she soon moved into film and television to become a scenic artist creating backdrops, signs and props. Her specialization in working on set with directors and cinematographers has had her called on repeatedly by some of our world's most prolific artists like Tom Waits, Terry Gilliam and Ang Lee on Brokeback Mountain, as well as many other feature films like Twilight, Night at the Museum, Percy Jackson and The Last of Us to name a few.
Her personal artwork now focusses on the relationship between the Sacred and Science with an emphasis on the healing art can bring. Just as Leonardo Da Vinci studied the ancient pattern of the Flower of Life and other geometric anomalies, she has focused on the importance of these images as a means of deepening consciousness, creating routes towards neurogenesis and supporting mental and emotional well-being.
Her art recreates geometric patterns represented in nature as inspired representations of the Flower of Life, Metatron’s Cube, Platonic Solids, Merkabah, Vector Equilibrium, Toroidal Field, Fibonacci Sequence and more. Often referred to as Sacred Geometry, her process in creation comes from deep reflection, meditation and connection to spirit or an energy beyond physical reality. She describes herself as simply the tool that energy passes through to create what you see and feel in the art work.
Within her Somatic Art Therapy Practice, Centre of the Heart she supports clients both in person and online to move through difficult experiences from trauma, depression, anxiety, suicidality, addiction and other mental health symptoms towards a path of transcendence and healing. Helping people find a personalized route to healing using trauma-informed art therapy, clinical psychotherapeutic approaches, transpersonal psychology, mindfulness, yoga and somatic counselling is the foundation of her work.
Another focus of her work is in supporting preparation and integration after psychedelic medicine journeys, with online programs available using Art Therapy, Dream work, Kundalini Meditation and Yoga, Somatic Processes, and Neuroplasticity that follow harm-reduction and trauma-informed protocols.
